Twenty-three female candidates compete for seats assigned to the female quota in Qalyubia, some of which are running for the first time. Hudá Mīkhā‘īl, the only Coptic candidate (for either men or women) in Qalyubia, is one of the most prominent. She is a member of the local council, a former member of the National Council for Women, and is known for her women’s rights work in the governorate.
