This article describes the four young Coptic men who died trying to save a Muslim sanitary worker from suffocating in a drainage pit. Although the worker cried out for help after beginning to asphyxiate from the toxic gas, his manager and other workers would not commence a rescue for fear of getting hurt. The four young Coptic men went down one after the other to try to help the man, and each one died. The families of the dead were awarded monetary compensation from the government and the sanitation company. The media portrayed this event as a strengthening of Coptic-Muslim relations, but little attention was paid to the nonchalance of the supervisors or the absence of safety precautions.
