Jehova's Witnesses have called on the Egyptian state to officially recognize them.

In a statement issued yesterday, the group said it is a Christian denomination and not Zionist nor Jewish, and that its beliefs are known to the world.

Rose al-Yūsuf has learned that the group intends to send a letter to the president asking that it be officially approved as a Christian denomination, as are the Orthodox, Catholic, and Evangelical churches.

Egypt's three main churches however, stress that the Jehovah's Witnesses group is not Christian at all and, in fact, holds beliefs that are alien to proper Christian doctrine.
