Muhammad ‘Abd al-Shakūr believes that since the establishment of the Azhar, it has showed loyalty to rulers and issues Fatwás that support their policies. That is, until Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyib, who doesn't like to show up unless absolutely necessary, became the grand Imām.

According to the author, the Azhar should fight extremism that defames the image of Islam and creates the global phenomenon of Islamophobia.

Studies show that a constant attack on Islam has impacted the influence of the Azhar. In addition, the institute's popularity has suffered because of the spread of extremist ideology in Egypt, which has led to an increase in Salafī practices.
