The Catholic and Episcopal churches in Egypt, along with other Western churches, celebrated Christmas on Saturday under tight security measures because of threats from al-Qā‘idah.

President Husnī Mubārak sent several representatives to attend the Catholic mass, passing on his greetings.

Muhammad al-Barād‘i, head of the National Front for Change, sent his greeting to Christians via Twitter, calling on both Muslims and Christians to work together for the sake of Egypt.
