The past year witnessed fourteen different Salafīyah demonstrations against the Coptic Orthodox Church, demanding that Pope Shenouda be deposed and that Christian women who had allegededly converted to Islam and been imprisoned be released.

However, an opposing Salafīyah streams emerged that banned demonstrations, claiming that these are a product that the Muslim Brotherhood brought from the West after their contact with political parties.

Husām Tammām, a researcher specializing in the affairs of the Islamic movement, talked about the evolution of the Salafīyah movement throughout history, saying that the more it is politicalized, the more its political ideologies are altered.
