Members of the Islamic Research Academy presented a draft law that calls for punishing any publisher or publishing house that misprints the Mushaf (original Qur'anic text with a fine of between 5,000 to 100,000 Egyptian pounds and 15 years in jail. In addition, the crime would now be considered a felony.

Members of the academy have also decided to start holding public forums in order to ensure national unity and fight extreme Salafiyah streams, as well as other supposedly radical ideologies in Egypt. The forums also aim to narrow the gap between Sunnah and Shī‘ah.
