A number of Coptic lawyers filed a report to the public prosecutor against Yāsīn Thābit and 'Abīr Fakhrī, who were both the focal point of the Imbābah incidents, accusing 'Abīr of bigamy and Thābit of being accomplice in the wrongdoing.

Some media reports had quoted 'Abīr as claiming in the Azhar that she has not married before although she is actually married and has a child, which is considered forgery in official documents.
