Archpriest 'Abd al-Masīh Basīt, a professor the Holy Book at the Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox College, linked the incidents of Imbābah district in Giza to the appearance of Kāmīliyā Shihātah on the Christian channel al-Hayāh.
"One of the objectives of the Imbābah developments was to respond to the Kāmīliyā issue and to cover over her statements on TV," he said, citing salafists' statements about 17 Coptic women reportedly converted to Islam being detained inside a church.
However, Husām Abū al-Bukhārī, a media spokesman for the coalition to back new converts to Islam, dismissed the correlation.
"The incidents broke out prior to Kāmīliyā's appearance on al-Hayāh channel. The core of those incidents in Imbābah was 'Abīr Tal'at Fakhrī, whose cries to her Muslim husband for help to get her out of a residential building belonging to Saint Mina Church, was the main reason Muslims gathered outside the church," he said.
