What Egypt and other countries in the region have suffered recently is due to constitutional conventions, human nature, and materialistic temptations and other psychological illnesses rulers suffer from. Most notable of these illnesses are rulers' arrogance, as expressed in the words of Louis XIV who said “I am the state.” In Egypt, Khidīvī Tawfīq told Ahmad ‘Urābī "You are but slaves of our benevolence.”
