In a meeting lasting until the early hours of Sunday 4, 2011, in one of the major hotels in downtown Cairo, six parties from the Democratic Coalition threatened to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections unless the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) amend the new Peoples’ Assembly and Shura Council Law.

The Coalition, consisting of 28 various political parties, said the law constitutes a threat to democracy, as it allows the remnants of the ousted regime to run independently and welcomes their return to parliament.
