Oasis writes that “Shubra is the Christian-majority area where the demonstration started.” Shubra is not a “Christian majority area” but some areas in Shubra do have a Christian majority. Father Joseph Scatolin told AWR researcher Lamis Yehya that he found the Christian way of demonstrating lacking sensitivity towards the Muslim majority, even provocative, because of the public display of Christian religious symbols and some youth shouting slogans that showed little respect to Islam. Yet, that does not justify the violence used by thugs and army against unarmed Christian demonstrators.
