The [Christian] Maspero Youth Union has staged a demonstration outside the Public Prosecutor's office protesting unfair trials against Copts accused of insulting Islam.

The protest was against using “double standards” regarding Copts which the union said reinforces religious discrimination. The protestors chanted: “The military is like the Muslim Brotherhood, both are manipulative,” “this is sectarian strife not a legal trial,” and “military rule is void, the public prosecutor is void.”

The union cited a number of cases of Muslim Salafists who insulted Christianity and were not punished, including the case of one Abu-Islam Abdullah who allegedly described Christianity as having a "doctrine of murder" and priests as being "barefoot rats."
