Acting Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church Bishop Pachomius expressed the church’s keenness on maintaining the unity of the national march, adding the importance of the church’s duty in preserving social peace is growing.
Bishop Pachomius and an accompanying delegation met with SCAF Chairman Field Marshal Muhammad Husayn Tantāwī on Wednesday (April 4) to offer thanks to the armed forces for their efforts to secure the funeral of deceased Coptic Orthodox Pope Shenouda III.
“The Constitution outlines the conditions for candidacy for the presidential post and accordingly the parliament should not monopolize the task of drafting it,” said Bishop Pachomius after a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Dr. Kamāl al-Janzūrī.
Bishop Pachomius, who also met with Grand Shaykh of the Azhar Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyīb, said that constituent assembly must include all segments of the Egyptian people, denying any coordination between the church and the Azhar to withdraw from the constitution panel.
