The Azhar clerics and scholars praised the agreement brokered between Grand Shaykh Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyīb and representatives of political powers, MPs and heads of professional syndicates that the Azhar undertakes contacts with all Egyptian political groups to form a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution for Egypt in a way that is satisfactory for all parties.

Dr. Mahmūd ‘Azab, an advisor for the Grand Shaykh of the Azhar, said the agreement would eliminate all differences that have recently emerged because the top Sunnī establishment stands at a space that is equal to all and does not seek power.
