Investigations into the October 9 incidents outside the state radio & TV building in Maspero that left 23 people mowed down by Military Police vehicles and “unidentified” fire revealed shocking information.
According to the probe and investigations by the interior ministry and military police, unidentified persons opened fire on the protesters from Nile boats off the Maspero building while the coroner’s reports confirmed that some of the victims were shot from a space nearly 25 centimeters.
A human rights activist and a businessman were referred to the criminal court on charges of stealing an automatic rifle from an army armored vehicle while 54, including five church leaders and former minister of information Usāmah Haykal and state TV officials, were released for lack of sufficient evidence that they were involved in incitation.
