Some Egyptians are busy with efforts to impose a constitution which expresses their viewpoint alone without consideration for Egypt as a whole, according to Dr. Rif’at al-S’aīd.  He stresses that Egypt needs a constitution to protect its children on an equal footing, regardless of religion, beliefs, gender, or social status. Further, we should evoke the principles of the 1923 Constitution, as we have woefully digressed from that era; our beliefs today are far from the liberal ideals and national unity that we espoused in those days (Dr. Rif’at al-S’aīd, al-Misrī al-Yawm, August 18, p. 12).
