Amid tight security, thousands of Orthodox Copts from all over Egypt have descended upon the village of Mīt Damsīs of Ajā Township in Daqahlia Governorate to participate in celebrations marking the martyrdom of St. George. The festivities officially began last Thursday (August 23) and continued for ten days with several bishops in attendance.

Hundreds of Muslims from the village welcomed Copts who came from outside the village to their houses (Ghādah ‘Abd al-Hāfiz, al-Misrī al-Yawm, August 26, p. 16). Read original text in Arabic.
