The Administrative Court is considering today (September 2, 2012) the case calling for the Coptic Orthodox papal elections to cease. Coptic citizen Mājid Murād Mikhā'īl filed this lawsuit calling for the elections to come to a halt until the issuance of a new statute that gives the opportunity for segments, other than monks and bishops, to nominate for the patriarch seat. In addition, this would allow other Coptic segments to vote for the new pope.
