An opinion piece in al-Shurūq al-Jadīd newspaper criticized possible presidential candidate Dr. Muhammad Salīm al-‘Awwā in al-Gharbia governorate, in which the prominent man of law with profound knowledge and study of the Islamic sharī’ah said, “75% of the Egyptians have said YES to God,” in reference to the recent parliamentary elections.

‘Awwā has clearly said that when the voters supported Islamist groups, then they have only said YES to Allah, not for the understanding of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Salafīs or al-Wasat Party of Islam while the citizens who have not voted for these parties simply said NO to God.

In just one sentence, Dr. ‘Awwā placed 25% of Egyptians opposing the policy of certain parties in a position as if they were in an enmity with God or as if the elections were only a plebiscite over faith or as if God was running in the recent elections.
