In an attempt to reinstate the bishops that were suspended by late Pope Shenouda, Pope Tawadros II set up a sub-committee from the Holy Synod led by Bishop Pachomius of al-Beheira Diocese, to consider the possibility of reinstalling the following bishops: Bishop Takla of Dishnā, Bishop Amonius of Luxor, and Bishop Matthias of al-Mahallah al-Kubrá. The sub-committee members who will look into this issue are Bishop Hidrā of Aswan, Bishop Sawirus of Dayr al-Muharraq, Bishop Biman of Dishnā and Qūs, as well as Bishop Yūsuf of South America. It is expected that the committee will submit its report on the suspended bishops to Pope Tawadros during the Holy Synod regular meeting in April. The final decision will be passed by the Holy Synod after the Easter holiday.
Pope Tawadros also appointed Bishop Serapion as Abbot of Saint Antony Monastery in Yermo, California with the continuation of his spiritual guidance as bishop and head of St. Bishoy Monastery. His Grace, Bishop Kyrillos of Milan, who had withdrawn from his nomination to the Patriarchal seat, has been appointed as Papal deputy for all Europe. Pope Tawadros also prayed for peace and stability for Egypt when he led his first New Year’s mass. A delegation from the Arab Center for Researches and Studies headed by al-Sayyīd Yassīn, Sulaymān Shafīq, and ꞌAbd al-Rahīm ‘Alī, as well as a delegation of leaders of the Egyptian armed forces headed by Major General Muhammad Saꞌd ꞌAssār, visited Pope Tawadros II to offer Christmas congratulations (Mustafá Rahhūmah, al-Watan, Jan. 5, p. 4).
