In an interview with al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, the preacher of al-Qāꞌid Ibrāhīm Mosque of Alexandria, Shaykh Ahmad al-Mahallāwī, said that “extending congratulatory messages to Christians is permissible only with the intention of hidāyah (guidance to the straight path of Islam); however congratulating them without hidāyah would mean an acknowledgement of their holidays”.
