The author of the article, ‘Abd al-Wahāb Sha'bān, discusses the consequences of the insulting language used by both Shaykh Abū Islām Ahmad ‘Abdullah and Priest Zakarīyā Butrus. Sha'bān describes how Abū Islām and Butrus publicly criticise and insult Christianity and Islam, respectively. According to Sha'bān these foolish actions and behaviours only instigate hate, conflict and violence from extremists across the country. The Church and Copts in particular, are paying the price for the insulting words of Abū Islām.
Abū Islām called on all people of different religions to watch his show in which he attacks Butrus and in which he insults Christianity. Similarly, Butrus speaks on satellite about his hate for the Prophet. The use of similar tactics means there is a parallelism between Abū Islām and Butrus. According to Sha'bān, both men are asking for assistance in financing their “hate channels” on Egyptian TV ('Abd al-Wahāb Sha'bān, al-Wafd, Mar. 22, p. 5). Read original text in Arabic.
