Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II has announced his plans to form a council to facilitate divorce and remarriage by the end of April. The plan includes various procedures such as providing easy access to legal and social workers, clerical councils to help the families, the introduction of the concept of “degrees of dispute”, and time limits on the amount of time the members of the church can spend deliberating each case. This follows on from a very well attended conference, at which more than 100 clergymen and laymen were present, that discussed and assisted in the formation of these proposals.
