Security authorities have yesterday arrested four new suspects in the happenings of Saint Mark Cathedral in al-'Abbāsīyyah. Pope Tawadros II said later,“ Our hearts are filled with deep mourning. We have not seen any concrete actions taken by the officials about what had happened.”
An official source of Cairo Security Department revealed that they were able to identify two Muslims and two Copts and arrest them for the possession of firearms, terrorizing citizens and damaging property. The security authorities stated to intensify their efforts to find the rest of the suspects.
Pope Tawadros met yesterday the former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Sāmī 'Anān, six ministers and the President of the World Council of Churches Olav Fykse Tveit to receive condolences to the victims of the happenings in al-Khusūs and Cathedral. Tveit demanded of the Egyptian government to protect all Egyptians, after he had discussed the situation of Copts in Egypt and their migration to other countries with the Pope (Ashraf Ghīth, 'Imād Khalīl and 'Abd al-Rahmān 'Akīlah, al-Misrī al-Yawm, Apr. 22, p. 1).
