Sāmī 'Anān arrived yesterday for his second visit in the Cathedral to condole with Pope Tawadros. The former Chief of Staff disappeared from the public after President Muhammad Mursi (Mursī) decided in August 2012 to bring him down from his office. Sources of the church, that prepared the meeting, said that 'Anān expressed his hope of Egypt overcoming this time of crisis. The Pope met with several members of the government to receive condolences for the recent wave of sectarian violence in al-Khusūs and the Saint Mark Cathedral.
Bashār stated that the Copts will not be marginalized in the new ministers' reshuffle. The Minister for Youth explained that they came to the meeting as representatives of the Egyptian government to improve the principles of the national unity. The Minister for sports al-'Amrī Fārūq suggested organizing sporting events to collect funds on behalf of the victims of the violence (Ahmad al-Sa'dāwī and Caroline Kāmil, al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, Apr. 22, p. 3).
