Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II led prayers at the Saint Bishoy (Bishūy)Monastery in Wādī al-Natrūn on the occasion of Palm Sunday, surrounded by monks and bishops. He prayed for Egypt while Coptic worshippers flowed into churches to celebrate Palm Sunday, which commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, where he was received by people carrying palm fronds. There was heavy security presence in the surrounding streets. Palm Sunday is the beginning of the Holy Week preceding Easter, during which many religious ceremonies, church rituals and prayers take place.
