The Egyptian Union of Human Rights, headed by Najīb Jubrā’īl, will hold an international conference in Cairo in the second week of June, with the aim of monitoring and documenting religious persecution and discrimination suffered by Copts in Egypt since the events in the Al-Zāwīyah Al-Hamrā’ neighbourhood of Cairo in January 2012. The conference will discuss the dangers of Coptic emigration from Egypt, particularly the fact that this appears to have increased since Mursi came to power and the inability of the Egyptian government to come up with just solutions. The conference is also scheduled to announce the internationalisation of the Coptic issue in line with international laws and treaties. In a statement, the Union announced that all governorates which have experienced persecution, forced emigration, siege or killing on the basis of religious identity will be represented at the conference (Majdī Fikrī, al-Dustūr, Apr. 29. P. 3). Read original text in Arabic.
