A Church source said that the Church does not expect President Mursī to come to Easter Mass at Saint Mark Cathedral. The source confirmed that the Pope will lead the prayer at the Cathedral next Friday and will lead Easter Mass. Archbishop Sergius Sergius, Deputy of the Patriarchate for Administrative Affairs, said that the invitation was sent to Mursī and the Prime Minister, Dr. Hishām Qandīl, and Dr. Aḥmad Fahmī, Speaker of the Shūrā Council, to attend the Church's Easter celebrations next Sunday (May 5) according to protocol and the invitation remains unanswered.
”Copts Without Restriction” group called for the shortening of Easter celebrations this year, out of respect for victims of recent attacks on Copts. Dr. Andrea Zakī Stephanous, Deputy head of the Coptic Evangelical Church and the General Director of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS), said that the Evangelical Church will celebrate Easter next Saturday (May 4) at Nasr City Church with all Egyptians, Muslims and Copts (ʿImād Khalīl, al-Miṣrī al-Yawm, May 2, p. 4).
