Rev. Dr. Safwat al-Bayādī, Head of Coptic Evangelical Church, questioned how the Church could ask young Copts not to participate in the June 30 demonstrations considering the times in which they live, during a meeting with the Council of Egyptian Churches on Jun. 11. He added that the Church cannot control the political will of the Coptic youth and they will protest if they want. He described the recent pressure on the Church to prevent the participation of Copts in demonstrations as cheap and unacceptable, and emphasized the Church does not involve itself in political matters.
