In a statement disclosed today by Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II said the three major Churches of Egypt are preparing a joined proposal on the amendments of some Constitutional articles. Church sources reported that during the national dialogue, initiated by President Muhammad Mursī, the three Churches had required from President Mursī binding guarantees to hold upright his promise of endorsing the amendments proposed by civil and political representatives. Member of the Coptic Orthodox Milī (Lay) Council Kāmil Sālih said that the proposal did not include Article 232 on reinstating the political isolation law for former regime figures.  Kāmil stressed that it is a crucial matter that President Mursī fulfills his promise on amending the controversial articles strongly rejected by the civil current. For his side, the representative of the Coptic Evangelical Church Reverend Rif'at Fathī in the national dialogue committee commented that some representatives of the civil fronts and the Churches had suggested drafting a binding declaration to be undersigned by the Administration as guarantee of fulfilling its promise to reverse the said articles (Ranīyā Nabīl, al-Sabāh, Jan. 16, p. 2). Read original text in Arabic.
