Security forces surrounded the village of al-Diyābīyah in Beni Suef governorate yesterday (August 11) after 30 Muslims and Christians were injured, one of whom is in a critical condition. Houses, cars and motorcycles were burnt following disagreements over the construcion of a road bump. 25 suspects were detained for provoking the crisis and their houses were searched for firearms and pocket knives which were used in the fight. Sohag's Security Chief Ibrahīm Hadīb confirmed receiving a compliant from Muhammad al-Brins, the head of Al-Wāstah Intelligence, stating that a disagreement began between a Christian lady and her Muslim neighbor due to the construction of a speed bump by the latter in front of the former’s house. Family members got involved with arms, leading to the torching of 4 Christian houses ('Umar al-Shaykh, Saīd Nāfi', and Tirīsa Kamāl, al-Masrī al-Yawm, Aug. 12, p. 15).
