The Associated Press news agency (AP) published a report from the city of Diljā, in al-Minya governorate. The village is now out of governmental control after extremist supporters of deposed president Muhammad Morsi (Mursī) expelled security forces and took over the police station. The agency analyzed the attacks on the Christians by the extremist Islamic currents. According to Father Yo’annis, the Virgin Mary and St. Abraham Monastery was burned intermittently for three days, while its looting lasted a whole week, and even saints' remains were vandalized and thrown outside. AP reports that while army and police are fighting armed militants on the Sinai, there are signs that Upper Egypt, and in particular al-Minya and Asyut, could be home for a second militant insurgency.
