A meeting between the representatives of Al-Azhar and the Church in the Constituent Assembly took place at the headquarters of Al-Azhar and lasted nearly two hours. It came at the invitation of Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyib, Al-Azhar Grand Shaykh, who did not attend the meeting.
Eight members of the assembly participated in the meeting of the committee session, including five of Al-Azhar, of which two are reserve members, namely Dr. Muhammad Mihanna, adviser to Shaykh Al-Tayyib, and Dr. Muhjah Ghalib, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar University.
Mohammed Abd al-Salām, legal adviser to the Shaykh of Al-Azhar, a member of the Constituent Assembly, stated that the meeting was consultative. The parties stressed that Al-Azhar and the Church are “one hand” in everything related to articles of the Constitution (Wā’il Fāyiz, al-Watan, Sept. 9, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic.
