Revolutionary forces and representatives of the churches refuse to meet with former U.S. ambassador David M. Satterfield
In a new escalation, many members of political and civil revolutionary forces as well as representatives of the churches have rejected the invitation to meet former U.S. Ambassador David M. Satterfield next Wednesday. They refused to participate in any meeting.
The Two Saints Church has also rejected his visit to the church as well the Orthodox Church. It pointed out that the meeting which should be held under the slogan "Mutual Understanding" must be approved by the Presidency and the Council of Ministers.
Rashād 'Abd al-'Āl, spokesman for the liberal stream, said that the refusal of the political forces came as a result of the incorrect American position towards the June 30 Revolution and Obama's support for terrorism.
Abū al-'Izz al-Harīri, the former presidential candidate and leader of the leftist party, said that such a meeting was a waste of time. He further stated that U.S. policies do not know anything other than its self-interest, even if it is against the interest of the people (Fikrī 'Abd al-Salām, Nāsir Gūyida, and Tāriq Ismā'īl, al-Ahrām, Sept.15).
