A conference organized by the General Coptic Agency and Copts United has been held. In the conference Dr. Kamāl Zākhīr requested a secular state that is built on the principle of citizenship.  Dr. Rif’at al-Sa’īd, head of the Tagammu’ Party, assured that he who calls the Christians infidels due to their religion also thinks that some Muslims are infidels for having a different opinion than their own. Dr. Sharīf Doss, the head of the general Coptic Agency, assured that there were more than 80 churches attacked, 40 establishments that belong to the Church were destroyed, 140 families were evicted, and their homes and stores were robbed. A speaker from the EIPR (Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights) stated that Copts are paying the price because the state is not upholding its responsibility to protect them (Peter Majdī, al-Tahrīr, Sept. 27, p. 9).
