Bishop Bola, the representative of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the Constituent Assembly, stated that he did not submit a proposal to amend Article 3 from “Christians and Jews” to “non-Muslims”. He stated that he was surprised to find a stream of opinions in the assembly requesting to amend the article to non-Muslims in order to safeguard the image of Egypt abroad. He stated that he was ready to yield to the other opinions if it were for Egypt’s sake. On the other hand, Bishop Antonius Azīz submitted a proposal to the assembly to establish an Egypt church council. The proposed article stated “the council of churches will include the Orthodox, Catholic, and Evangelical churches that are recognized in Egypt and this council shall have a separate legal personality and shall be financially independent” (Author not mentioned, Watanī, Sept. 29, p. 6).
