The Observatory of Citizenship in the new World Organization for Development and Human Rights has confirmed that the sectarian violence that took place between Copts and Muslims in Badrmān village in al-Minya led to the death of one with 6 others injured and 12 houses burned. The organization assured that there are two stories. The first is that a Muslim girl was having a love affair with a Muslim man who took her to Cairo together with his brother. The rumor spread that she was kidnapped and raped by the man, which led to clashes between Copts and Muslims in the village.
The second story states that the Muslim girl had hidden from her father with a Christian family in Cairo. He was informed of her place and went to Cairo to return her. Despite that she was still virgin, some inciters spoke with her father to push him to act violently against the two Coptic brothers that brought her to Cairo (Hudá Rashwān and Mahmūd Hasūnah, al-Watan, Dec. 1, p. 7).
