On the same court decision ruled in the case of the controversial video footage defaming Prophet Muhammad and Islam, al-Yāwm al-Sabiꞌ reported that the death ruling was based on Article 77 of the Penal Code, which states: “it shall be sentenced to death whoever deliberately committed an act threatening the independence of unity of the country or the territorial integrity”, contrary to the allegations that claimed the death sentence was implemented on the ground of the article on defaming religions.
