Shaykh Abū Islām has confirmed that he did not intend to insult all Christian women with his comments on the channel, in which he claimed that women who had been raped in Tahrir Square were “crusaders”, saying he had said “most, not all”. An anonymous source responded to Abū Islām’s comments, saying, “Does our venerable Shaykh know that we are Muslims, and we were subjected to gang rape in Tahrir Square?” In relation to his comments about Hamādah Sābir [who was beaten and stripped by police forces after protesting at the Presidential Palace this month], he said that Sābir deserved what happened because of his behavior towards the police forces; however, he was not advocating such actions by the police in general. He added that the media always tries to distort and misrepresent the statements of members of the Islamic movement.
