Maj. Gen. Hasan 'Abd al-Hay, head of the security department, said that security forces had received communication last Sunday reporting the absence of a school teacher in her thirties, who resides in the city of Kom Ombo. The rumor spread that one of her Christian friends took her to the church where she converted to Christianity. Relatives of the teacher gathered in front of the church, among them some provocative instigators. They then cut off the Cairo-Aswan road and the railroad.
The head of security forces added that the investigation had confirmed that the teacher left, on the day of her disappearance, accompanied by one of her colleagues, and was seen riding a microbus that was headed to Aswan. The parents think she is hiding in the church. The family of the missing teacher told al-Misrī al-Yawm that they are holding to the 48-hour deadline requested by the security leaders to return their daughter. The deadline ends today, Saturday, Mar. 2, and the woman’s family has noted that they are not responsible for what might happen in the event that she does not return (Mahmūd Malā and ‘Abd al-Rahman Mahmūd, al-Misrī al-Yawm, Mar. 2, p. 7).
