According to Nash’at Tal’at Sidīq, the only survivor of the Libyan massacre that cost the life of 7 Egyptians, the victims – including his father – were killed for sectarian reasons. He reported that a group of masked men wearing military uniforms and carrying machine guns entered their building looking for Christians. Nash’at was able to escape, but seven others were abducted and later killed. Nash’at said that Copts in Libya are continuously subjected to persecution and torture by brigades of Ansār al-Sharī’ah (an Islamist militia group). He added that after the incident, the 200 Christian Egyptians who work in the village where the incident occurred decided to return to Egypt (Khālid al-Ghawīt, al-Watan, Feb. 28, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic.
