The Education Ministry and the Ministry of Awqāf (Religious Endowments) called for a revision of the curriculum in religious subjects in order to combat violence and radicalization, and teach future generations tolerance instead. This curricular change is being interpreted within broader efforts by the Egyptian regime to counter domestic terrorism and so the curriculum was sent to al-Azhar and the Awqāf Ministry for further revision. In the meeting with DW Arabic, the ministry’s spokesman ʿOmar Tārik, said that raising awareness towards radicalism, racism, and tolerance is the main aim of the ongoing revision.
