Dr. Refaat Sa’id discusses a new book about the Muslim Brothers in which the author argues that they are trying to give outsiders a moderate view of their organization, while in fact they are secretly involved in terrorist activities, either by carrying weapons or by encouraging others to use violence.
Western authors, says Sa’id, make the mistake of calling this extremism ’ fundamentalism’, but ’fundamentalism’ is not the correct word, since it relates to going back to the fundamentals of one’s own religion. Fundamentalists would not kill, lie, cheat or steal money. "We must know that the West and the West alone is responsible for describing such terrorists as fundamentalists" and with this description, the West creates the impression that the fundamentals of Islam are resulting in extremism. Sa’id denounces that and says that those who use violence are not real Muslims.
