The Fatwa [religious decree], issued by the Islamic Research Institute, concerning the illegality of taking money for entering monumental mosques, whether the visitors are Muslims or non-Muslims, Egyptians or foreigners, was rejected by those in charge of monuments in the Ministry of Culture. They confirmed that fees are imposed only on foreigners who visit monumental mosques as historical places not as places of worship.
