The Islamic Research Institute put an end to the controversial issue of leasing wombs by rendering it haram [religiously forbidden]. Asharq Al-Awsat interviewed many scholars, doctors and experts in the field of genetic engineering to ask them about their opinions concerning this issue. Dr. Abdel-Mo’ti Bayoumi said that the whole process was like that of suckling. It is allowed to suckle a baby through the breast of another women, wombs can be seen in the same light. Dr. Mohammed Ra’fat Othman, the dean of the Faculty of Law and Shari’a and a member in the Islamic Research Institute said that leasing wombs was haram for many reasons.
