The second meeting of the Conference on Recent [Topics] in Islamic Thought, organized by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf [Endowments], witnessed a hot debate about the possibility of renewing fiqh [Islamic jurisprudence] terminology concerning jihad and international relations. The conference, the seventh of its kind, is titled “Islam and Regional International Cooperation,” and will take place from March 22 until March 24. The debate focused on the notions of Dar Al-Harb [the house/place of war], Dar Al-Islam [the house/place of Islam], dhimmis [free non-Muslim subject living in a Muslim country, who in return for paying capital tax, receives protection and safety], mowala [loyalty] and mo’ada [hostility].
