The Suggestions and Complaints Committee of the People’s Assembly discussed a draft law that would amend the criminal law with regard to the crime of extramarital sex. They referred to the unconstitutionality of the laws, currently in effect, as they are no longer conforming to the second article of the constitution last amended in 1980, which stipulates that the Islamic Sharī‘a is the basic legislative source.
