Dr. Jābir ‘Asfour quotes the very beginning of the preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which reads: "recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world...” Contrary to some arguments which draw a direct link between the absence of human rights in Egyptian society and the dominance of executive authority, the author refers to public lack of awareness about the culture of human rights as the main reason behind violations of human rights in Egypt.
