Bishop Bīshūy, secretary general of the Holy Synod declared that the current conflict between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Evangelical Church was said to have started when a young man discovered the alleged Protestant plan to promulgate in the Coptic Orthodox Church on a computer belonging to Bishop Bula in al-Mahallah al-Kubrá. The Protestant side has declared that if the Coptic Orthodox Church announces openly that Protestants are nonbelievers, the Evangelical Church will withdraw from the Middle East Council of Churches. The Catholic Church seems to have taken on the role of the mediator in the crisis.
